Replacing the majority of  a monolithic front lawn with a water-wise garden, through the Goleta Water District lawn replacement program, was an exciting challenge. The  busy owners were use to of the classic lawn... "ya mow it" maintenance schedule and were interested in creating a change while keeping it low maintenance. By choosing mostly hearty drought tolerant plants that infilled nicely weeding and water were kept to a minimum. Since the multipurpose lawn was now minimize the other spaces were able to take on individual responsibilities. The warm decomposed patio space for lounging on a chaise. Adjacent to the busy sidewalk a friendly barrier of low planting, a split rail fence and a wispy hedge created both a barrier and screening from the public.
